Collin came from the work and he wanted to eat anything but we can eat right away. It means he wanted to go out! 😀 As he hadn’t been to this restaurant, we decided to go. I had to take care of something for work on that day, so we left home a bit late and it was right on dinner time when we arrived. All tables were taken, and the server said it would be 15-20 min or so for a table available. We walked around and went back, and the restaurant was quieter.

The place is Hyoga Japanese Cuisine. It is a Japanese restaurant on Kingsway, close to Joyce Street. They serve Sushi and Japanese tapas like Izakaya dishes.

We ordered from their regular and special menu.

Toro Tataki Donburi Set
(7 pc of Seared Tuna Belly on bowl of Sushi Rice with homemade sesame vinaigrette, Small Salad, Miso Soup)

I wanted to eat this, and he told me to go for it. I liked this Donburi. The combination of Tuna belly and the vinaigrette was good.

Dynamite Roll and California Roll

These were his choice. At the end, there didn’t seem enough for him, so I told him to order one more roll.

Prawn Tempura

He is a prawn monster! He loves prawns.

Nasu Dengaku

Nasu Dengaku is Miso grazed eggplants. Some people may find it too sweet, and some people may find it too rich, but I like them.

He seemed to enjoy their food, so we will come back again.

One day in May, Collin and I had a bad day. I just couldn’t stay home, so I left for walking and had a cup of tea at a coffee shop. As it was getting dark and late, I decided to have dinner out or to get something to go.

I went to Hyoga Japanese Cuisine on Kingsway. At my last two visits, I didn’t have much Sushi, so my choice was Sushi. They serve Japanese tapas like Izakaya dishes, too.

I ordered from their regular menu.

Nigiri Sushi
(Left to down: Red Tuna, Hamachi, Ebi, Tamago, Right to down: Toro, Ikura, Amaebi)

These are my choices, not assorted by them. Sushi was good! They deep-fried Amaebi’s head for me, which was great!

When the rainy season started in the middle of October, I just took time to wake up one Sunday. Because of it, I missed the lunch time and also lost motivation to go see leaves turned to yellow or red. So, I just decided to go to downtown Vancouver to walk around.

When I was walking, I felt starving. I passed by my Shiatsu place close to Harbour Centre, and the Shiatsu therapist and I walked to Donburi ya, as he said he wasn’t busy. Donburi ya is in West End of downtown Vancouver. It was almost 3:00pm, and I’m glad that they open and that I can order some meal at supper time.

I ordered from their bowl menu.

Negitoro (fatty tuna mixed with green onion) Bowl

I can’t remember if I ordered Miso soup as a combo… Well, it was good, as the weather was wet and getting cold.

Compared to the last time when I had the same one, Negitoro is chopped but not mashed. I don’t know if they changed the way or forgot to mash. I preferred the mashed way.
