It was nice that we still had time to spend together on that weekend, even after Collin and I enjoyed afternoon tea. Since it was his birthday weekend, I wanted to get something special for him, so we went shopping in Kitsilano area. Time went by, and we decided to have dinner around the area. I suggested eating Yakitori at a Japanese restaurant, but they’re gone! There was a new restaurant instead. We went back where we walked from and went in this restaurant.

The Noodle Box is on 4th Avenue, close to Burrard Street. They serve Southeast Asian cuisine. They are a casual restaurant that I could even say it’s a fast food restaurant. I have been to the restaurant in different locations, but I still don’t feel comfortable when I order. 😛

On some dishes, you can choose the spice level.

His choice, Thai Style Chow Mein

My choice, Malay Style Fried Rice
(Malaysian spices with Jasmin Rice, mixed with Free-run Egg and Asian Greens)

You can choose protein from chicken, beef, pork of Tofu. Prawns and free-run chicken are available with additional cost.

I ate chow mein before, so I chose this fried rice. There was some spice or ingredient that I didn’t like, but I couldn’t have figured out. I preferred chow mein.

The first time I knew about this place was when Collin and I went to Victoria. He got some food from this restaurant on our way home. He must like their food more than I do, and when he saw their booth at Eat! Vancouver this year, he just went in line right away. 😀

The Noodle Box is an Asian noodle restaurant, which my impression is Thai food and maybe fast food? At the booth, they provided shrimp lettuce warp and spicy peanut noodlebox vegan and gluten free.

He is not a big fan of gluten free, but he ate them all, so it must have been good!

While I was relaxed after I came back from hiking, Collin called me that his shift finished earlier and he was gonna get something to eat. I told him I hadn’t had dinner yet, although it was around 9pm, and I said fried rice would be good, whichever Chinese or Thai. There was a Thai place in his mind, close to Georgia and Burrard street, but he said it was closed. So, I suggested to walk on Alberni street.

He went in Pink Elephant Thai. It is on Alberni street, across from Urban Fare market. He said the inside the restaurant was loud by music.

He ordered from their dinner menu.

The fried rice was enough for two of us to share. It needed seasoning little more, and veggies needed to cook more (to me). It might be just my imagination, but veggies in Thai fried rice tends to be raw, doesn’t it? I noticed maybe because I don’t like raw onions!
