For Collin’s birthday, we had a dinner with our close friends. Before the day, one of friends asked me where she can get birthday cake this time. I hadn’t been following news for new cafe or restaurant for a while, so I searched if there is anything new and if not, where the place I hadn’t tried.

And, Thomas Haas Chocolates & Patisserie came up. I have heard about this place many many times, but I just didn’t have a chance to try, because their locations are not close to where I usually go.

She chose 5 pieces of individual cake at the Kitsilano location.

Almond Mascarpone
(Light Mascarpone Cream, Soft Almond Sponge Cake with Amaretto and Espresso)

It sounded like Tiramisu, but it wasn’t. It was more like a sponge cake with coffee taste, as it’s described.

Pistachio Apricot Cake
(Pistachio and White Chocolate Mousse, Fresh Apricot, Vanilla Shortbread)

By looking at the color, I thought match taste. No, no, it was pistachio.

Caramel Brownie Cake
(Flourless Chocolate Pecan Brownie, Caramel Cremeux, Caramel Bavarian)

The was gluten free. I don’t mind flourless at all.

Hazelnut Praline
(Hazelnut Mousseline, Hazelnut Dacquoise, Vanilla Sponge Cale, Jamaican Run Syrup, Shortbread Crust)

We shared each one of them, so I can’t remember much how the taste was. Haha. I didn’t have any disliking feeling, so they must be all good. Next time, I would like to enjoy one by myself.

While I was at Friday Night Market in North Vancouver with my friend in the middle of June, we tried a couple of street cart food. After eating, we looked around the booth/tents. There were many different baking stuff, chips, ice cream (oh, maybe Gelato?), soup, organic stuff, veggies and fruits.

We checked out one of the bakery thing. It was Sweet Thea. They sell pie, tart, and cookies. I asked the staff where they sell, and he said they are from Langley, but they don’t have a store. Mostly sell at market. That made us buy something, as we thought we didn’t get much chance to try other than this market. My friend got one tart, and I got two, for me and Collin.

I forgot to take a picture of the individual one at home.

Pear Almond tart was tasty, even I had next day. Collin seemed to like the lemon tart, too.

Collin left the Eat! Vancouver event earlier to go to work, and my friend and I stayed until late afternoon. After we had done her some errands, we felt we needed to sit down. We were looking for a cafe, but it was Sunday evening, hard to find one. We went to some places and checked the others on iPhone, but no luck. And suddenly an idea came up to my mind, although it was a bit far from where we were.

It was Sweet Obsession, located in Kitsilano. They are a sister cafe of Trafalgar Bistro at the next door. The great thing of this cafe is very quiet, and open til late. Besides, their sweets are so good! We tried their sweets before at Trafalgar Bistro and enjoyed them.

We each ordered tea and sweet from their table menu.

There are so many choices! I would like to come back again.
