As I mentioned before, I made some new friends at my friend’s baby shower. The birthday of one of them was coming up, and we organized a birthday dinner for her.

As she wished to eat paella, the organizer chose this restaurant, La Bodega. It is located in downtown Vancouver, close to Drake Street. They serve Spanish tapas food. What did we order? I’m not sure… Because when I got to my nearest Skytrain station, the shutter was down, and nobody could get in. I ended up taking two buses to get to downtown, and it took more than an hour and half. So, by the time when I arrived at the restaurant, most of food was shared and served. Oh, my kind friends kept my share in the plates. 🙂 Anyways, I took only one picture.

For the taste, I think it was much better than my last visit in 2011. The atmosphere was more lively than before.

My friend and I went to Sakura Days Japan Fair and left there when they closed after having coffee at a little cafe at VanDusen. The area is residential and it was raining, but there was no places we can have a chat nearby. We decided to head to downtown Vancouver. While we were on the bus, we decided to go for dinner.

The Sardine Can was in my list for a while, and even my fellow blogger, Shelley reminded me of this place in her blog once. They are a new restaurant opened in 2012 and located in Gastown, close to the status of “Gassy” Jack. The restaurant is a small bar place with 3 sharing tables and a counter bar. They serve Spanish tapas food.

We ordered from their regular menu.

All food was tasty, although we ordered some with similar sauce. The sardine toast is a must item. The octopus and pork cheeks were tender, and the prawns’ one was quite spicy for me but good! I have been to another Spanish tapas restaurant in Vancouver, but I preferred this restaurant.

We also shared two dessert.

We weren’t sure about this savory-ish seasoning on dessert, but it was quite good. I also liked flan, because I like custard pudding, but my friend probably preferred soft one like creme caramel rather than flan.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention! When we tried to pay by cash, our server had the bill adjusted with 10% discount. Yay!

Their site says La Buca and Pied-a-Terre are sister restaurants. I might like to try them.

We went to have early dinner in Victoria, because we wanted to try one more place after that. The Tapa Bar is the best place that you can bite some but not too much. It is in an alley from Government street, parallel to Yates street.
