In early December, Collin said he wanted to go a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown, where we went a while ago and liked their food. They don’t take a reservation, so we just headed to the restaurant. When we arrived, there were a lot of people inside standing, and we realized there was a note on the door, saying closed for private function. Sigh. We came all way down here and couldn’t go. We headed back to Stadium station and were thinking about an alternative.

Collin said he wouldn’t mind eating Sushi, so we went to Tsuki Sushi Bar. It is on Abbott street, close to Pender. They serve mainly Sushi, and I don’t think they have any deep-fry stuff.

We ordered from their regular and special menu.

I liked Abbot Roll, which consists of Tuna, BBQ salmon, skin, lettuce, cucumber, mayo and Masago. We didn’t like their Dynamite Roll last time and totally forgot about it. We still didn’t like it. Their Dynamite roll was torched with Tsuki sauce.

We are not a fan of Uni, sea urchin, but since it was on special, I ordered one. It was fresh, so I didn’t mind eating it.

I liked Torotaku last time, so I ordered it. It is a combination of Toro and Takuwan (pickled Daikon radish). Kani Special Roll was good. It contained real Dungeness crab. I’m not sure if I liked Rainbow Roll, although we ordered last time, too. I wouldn’t order it next time.

We were full, but he had already decided to order this dessert since he saw it on their special menu.

Mochi Ice Cream 2pcs

Mochi Ice Cream 2pcs at Tsuki Sushi Bar in Vancouver

This is ice cream inside covered by Mochi (pounded sticky rice). There were two choices to choose from, vanilla or match. Collin ordered two vanilla, and I ordered one each. Mochi on match was little bit dry.

They open Sundays now. Their price seems up quite a bit, compared to the last time.

On the weeknight, I had to go to downtown Vancouver to have a meeting. It was almost 8:00pm when I finished, so I decided to take out. During the day, I saw a post on their Facebook, saying Uni (Sea Urchin) arrived in the store. Well then, I should eat them while they are fresh, right?

You know which restaurant I’m talking about. I went to Sushi Zero One.

I ordered from their today’s special menu.

Uni & Ikura Donburi

The price was slightly up. Uni must cost more than before.

At the beginning of this month, I happened to look at their site and found that there was a spacial dinner for 3rd Annual Oceanwise Celebration at Trafalgars Bistro in Kitsilano. I like seafood and thought 7-course dinner for $65 was good deal, so I emailed to one of my friends if she was interested.

I called them next day for a reservation, and I felt comfortable by talking with them, as I was on guard because I thought the restaurant was not casual. When I asked their dress code and if jeans were OK, she said, make sure the jeans were able to be stretched due to 7-course. 🙂

My friend ordered taster size (2 oz) of wine, and I ordered a glass of wine.

I enjoyed most of them.

Sockeye salmon was little sweet for me. Paella was like soup, which I’m not sure if it was supposed to be. Lobster in the pound cake was big pieces and it was interesting-weird taste. :O

I liked Uni form, though I’m not really a fan of Urchin. I don’t think I ever eat sturgeon before, but it tasted like between sable fish and cod. I just looked up what kind of fish it was, and it was surprising to me!
