As usual, Collin said he wanted to eat Tonkatsu! Is it his routine in certain period? Or maybe, the addiction comes back every a few months. 😀 Anyways, on the Labour Day long weekend, we went to Kingyo Izakaya on Denman Street.

Kingyo Izakaya serves Japanese tapas dishes at night as well as lunch combo, including Teishoku. It is located in the midway of Robson and Davie Street.

We ordered from their regular lunch menu.

Tea came right away, but our food didn’t come for next 40 min or so. When the next table, who ordered after us, got their food, and we realized one of their foods was what he ordered, Collin got frustrated, because he needed to leave as quickly as possible for work. And, finally the food came with the server’s apology.

Right after this, the server brought this Sashimi salad below. We appreciated but at the same time, we knew we didn’t have time to finish eating.

As you can see, I forgot to take a picture of whole food, because I got distracted by the salad that the server brought and the conversation with him for that.

Well, anyways, we enjoyed our food, and we asked the server for the salad to go.

They renewed their website so that we can see the lunch menu on site.

I went hiking to North Shore with my friends in August. As usual, we were talking about where to have lunch after hiking, and they asked me. I wasn’t sure if the place was open, but I suggested one on Hastings Street, where serves all breakfast. When we passed by, there was a line up outside the restaurant, and they said they didn’t want to wait. Alternatively, I suggested this place, although there might be waiting time.

We tried to see if there was a line up. The place was Kishimoto Japanese Kitchen + Sushi Bar. They are on Commercial Drive in Vancouver and serve Japanese food. Luckily, the waiting time wasn’t too bad, as we were seated at the counter.

We ordered from their lunch special menu. I didn’t take pictures of the others, since we were at the counter and I didn’t want to bother to move dish around.

When I read it on the menu, it looked a big meal as lunch, but when it came, I didn’t think it was big. Yet, when I finished, it totally filled my stomach. 😀

Their lunch menu is not so interesting as much. It basically is a combination of Karaage, Gyoza, Udon, or Sushi, or Donburi, which is rice bowl with something on top.

My co-worker posted some pictures of spot prawns in Facebook, and I realized that there was Spot Prawn Festival that day. Although I didn’t go to the festival, I had to get some, since the season just started and I was at Granville Island.

I went to a store called The Lobster Man and asked 10 pieces.

While I was paying for them, the prawns were jumping! A couple came behind me and the young lady asked what they were. I told her they were spot prawns and it was in season now. And, the guy asked how I cooked, so I replied I would eat raw, and both seemed surprised and the lady said this was crazy. I giggled and asked if they had eaten Sushi.

I texted Collin that I bought some spot prawns. As he said he wanted to eat some next day, I ate half. I took head and skin off for Sashimi and used head for Miso soup. Great Dashi comes out of head! (I don’t eat them, just so you know.)

Compared to the ones that I got 3 years ago, these spot prawns were huge! And, I’m happy to eat them. 🙂
