Having a long meeting day (meeting after another), Collin sent me a text, saying come to the restaurant for dinner around 7. I thought he was going out for dinner with his father and family. Although I was still busy, I thought I needed to refresh my head, so I told him I would.

The restaurant he made a reservation was L’Abattoir in Gastown. It was in our wish list for a long time but didn’t have a chance to go even Dine Out event. My friend went to Dine Out, and she wasn’t impressed than she expected, so I was excited half and hesitated half to try out.

I don’t know if they change menu periodically. The menu on their website is different from what we saw. The picture of the menu is at the bottom.

My choice, Raspberry Lemonade (Fresh Juice)

Fresh raspberry smoothie and lemonade gives little sourness. I usually don’t like sour, but this one was just right for me.

Collin’s choice, Gin & Grapefruit

Complimentary Bread

Anchovy twist, bacon brioche, and caraway flatbread. They served warm, which was nice.

Spring Salad
(Lettuce, Vegetables, Tallegio Croutons)

Warm Steelhead and Crunchy Potato Salad
(Ramps, Horseradish, Dill)

This is from warm appy. I got some bite from Collin, and the steelhead was cooked perfectly!

Smoked Sturgeon with Fava Beans
(Grapefruit, Avocado, Mint)

This is from cold appy. Ow, I love fava beans! Well, the whole dish was great.

Steak Diane
(Charred Onions, Potato Fundant, Peppercorn Condiment)

I had some bite from Collin. The steak was good. The triangle ones are made by potato.

Fillet of Pacific Halibut with a Parsley Crust
(Mussels, Potato, Artichoke)

Wow, the halibut was like silk, beautifully cooked. I should have taken a picture when I cut. The piece was quite big, and I enjoyed that.

I’m gonna tell my friend that she should come again on a regular day!

The first Sunday of May was so sunny and warm! I was gonna just go shopping and headed to Metrotown on foot, but it was so nice to be outside, so I sent a text to my friend if she wanted to walk in the evening. After I did some shopping in the mall, I met up with her and went to Burnaby Lake for walking. We walked for about 2 hours or so and decided to have dinner.

The area doesn’t really have any restaurants, besides, it was Sunday, so we drove toward Vancouver and went in White Spot. I didn’t realize this location was across the Gilmore Skytrain station, until we left there and my friend took me home. They serve variety of food, salad, burger, Italian, Canadian food, i.e. Poutine, and so on.

We ordered from their lunch & dinner menu to share.

Sweet Potato Fries
(Cajun seasoned & served with Chipotle Mayo)

People here say sweet potato and yam are same. They’re not! 😀 Well, this one is yam fries. I liked the crunchiness of the fries’ surface.

Wild Pacific Salmon Fillet Burger
(Lettuce, tomato, red onion & our lemon basil aioli, served with Caesar salad)

I’ve heard from my other friend that salmon burger tastes good. It does! I mean, I didn’t expect the tastiness at this kind of chain restaurant.

The Spot’s Salad your way
(Chargrilled Chicken with the Spot’s salad includes artisan greens, Amorosa tomato basil salsa, cranberries, sunflower & pumpkin seeds with honey sherry dressing, served with garlic panini bread)

The salad was OK. My friend didn’t like the chicken, which was too dry.

This restaurant is in various locations, so I will go back if I’m hungry.

As usual, Collin asked me what I wanted to eat for dinner on his day off, and I said something not heavy, like salad or soup. Then he asked if I liked to eat salad like the one he ate at Chambar. Sure, why not?

When he came home from shopping, he was so excited for cooking. 😀

Apple Salad with Cucumber, Citrus and Tuna Tataki

In addition to the fancy salad, he also made Tuna Tataki to accompany with. The dressing was Dijon vinaigrette. This dinner was beautiful and tasted good, and was totally a success.
