On a Collin’s day off, we just decided to walk before dinner and to eat out somewhere. The daytime in Summer was longer and bright, and it was nice to walk whether in the woods or not.

As he had never been to this restaurant, we chose to go. Jambo Grill & Good Morning Paan serves Iranian, Indian, African food. It is a walking distance from Joyce Skytrain station.

We ordered from their regular menu. He ordered an extra garlic naan, adding to his butter chicken curry.

He liked this, but he preferred butter chicken to the other place on Commercial Drive.

I ordered the same one last time and really liked it, so I did order again. The great thing with this plate is that you can enjoy different tastes little by little and you won’t get tired of eating.

I want to order something new next time! (I said that the last time, too. :))

My friend and I went hiking to Lynn Regional Park, and it was even snowing in the early November, when we got to north of the trail. We walked a bit faster on our way back to the starting point, as it was getting dark around 4:00 pm. When we got back to the gate, we were so relieved but at the same time, I thought we should eat something to warm up.

My friend requested some spicy food, so I suggested Indian-African food. Jambo Grill & Good Morning Paan is close to Kingsway and Joyce street, and they serve Iranian, Indian, African, Canadian food, according to their site.

We ordered from their regular menu.

The server kept coming for the refill without charge. I usually don’t like Chai, but it was nice to drink with all food. 🙂

This combo was nice to order to try different tastes for the first time. Kuku Choma is described as slices of chicken tenders marinated & grilled to perfection, and Masai Ribs are described as fall off the bone, thick beef ribs, marinated in a special sauce, in their menu. And all taste are good.

The menu was huge so that we couldn’t concentrate on what we ordered, but now I see it on their site, I would like to try new things including dessert.

My friend’s birthday was coming up, and she contacted me and our other friend to go out for dinner. The next time when she sent a text was about a restaurant she chose. Alright, we were ready.

When the other friend contacted the Italian restaurant if we can bring cake or not, they said they were not open on that day! :O She contacted the birthday girl about it, and the birthday girl chose another restaurant.

Raga Restaurant is located on Broadway, close enough to Oak street. They seem to serve good East Indian food, based on review sites, so it was good to try.

We decided to order one combo and some other dishes to share among six of us. Oh, I wasn’t familiar with all Indian food names and I kind of gave up on choosing what I wanted, so I was glad that my friends figured out what to order!

Raga Special Combo
(A combo with some BBQ – Tandoori chicken, and some curries – butter chicken, lamb curry, Raga vegetable and dal; served with pulao rice, raita, nan and dessert)

Bhuna Lamb

Pulao Rice
(Basmati rice flavoured with clove, black and green cardamom and cinnamon stick, cooked with onion, garden peas and carrots)

Butter Chicken
(Chicken booked in a butter tomato sauce with cream, ginger, garlic, fenugreek, and other spices)

Eggplant Bhartha
(Mashed eggplant sauteed with onions and peas, and seasoned with herbs and spices)

Nan
(A soft, fluffy, leavened white flour bread)

What I liked most in those dishes was dal (lentil curry?) in the combo. And, what I didn’t like was rice. I guess one of the spices or ingredients was not my thing.

On their site, my friend found a coupon as a promotion. We printed out and brought it, and we got $7 discount.

After dinner, it was time for cake. My friend bought one from Port Moody! Detail about the cake? It will come in the next post.
