I have another friend, whose birthday was in early September. I sent a birthday message and told her, “let’s make a plan for dinner or brunch”. We finally set a date at the end of September and had brunch with her husband and her roommate.

The place we went was Forage restaurant. Forage is at Listel Hotel in downtown. They focus on fresh local and sustainable ingredients. The brunch is served until 2pm.

We ordered from their brunch menu.

My choice, BC Spot Prawn and Seafood Chowder
(Soft-poached Egg, Smoked Chicharron, Pork Hock)

Adding Toast

I actually liked this. I don’t know if this was the best chowder, as people say, but there is depth, and it was not thin like soup but not too thick like glutenful.

Her choice, Classic Benny
(Back Bacon, Free-range Eggs, Crispy Potatoes, Hollandaise)

Double-fried Pork Cutlet Sandwich
(Fried Egg, Gouda, House-made Pickle, “Thousand Island”)

The sandwich looked good. I want to try that next time when I’m starving! 🙂

Her roommate wanted to try some chowder, in addition to the sandwich, and the small version came like this. It probably was a half price?

We were talking and talking so much while and after eating and didn’t realize the brunch time was way over until some family came in and staff said it was closed. Thanks for letting us stay longer!

The Dine Out event is held right now and they attend to it, so you might want to check out their menu.

One night in September, Collin and I decided to go out for dinner, as he worked hard in the morning and was too tired to cook. It was still nice day continuing, and walking was great to do, heading to the restaurant.

We went to 29th Ave Cafe. They serve Japanese Yoshoku (Japanese-style western food) and are located on Boundary Road. Yoshoku includes cutlet, deep-fries, curry, etc.

We ordered from their menu. I don’t think they ever changed the menu. 🙂

Pork Cutlet (Tonkatsu)

He already started pouring Bulldog sauce. 😀 He ate chicken cutlet on the previous day, and he still ordered cutlet! :O It shows how much he likes it!

Well, I can’t blame him, either. I ordered deep-fried as well. I always wanted to try something else but ended up ordering this. It’s that good for me! My mom used to say creamy croquette is difficult to make because the stuff inside would always be popped out.

I like the half size of lettuce head, coming with the fried. We should eat food in a balance, and their entrees consist a great balance of nutrition, in my opinion.

Custard Pudding

We both ordered this. I didn’t think he would order, as he actually ate deep-fried prawns as an appetizer before the entree, but he did! (He dug in the fries right away, and I didn’t even have time to take a pic!)

As I always say, this restaurant serves consistent taste every time.

As usual, Collin said he wanted to eat Tonkatsu! Is it his routine in certain period? Or maybe, the addiction comes back every a few months. 😀 Anyways, on the Labour Day long weekend, we went to Kingyo Izakaya on Denman Street.

Kingyo Izakaya serves Japanese tapas dishes at night as well as lunch combo, including Teishoku. It is located in the midway of Robson and Davie Street.

We ordered from their regular lunch menu.

Tea came right away, but our food didn’t come for next 40 min or so. When the next table, who ordered after us, got their food, and we realized one of their foods was what he ordered, Collin got frustrated, because he needed to leave as quickly as possible for work. And, finally the food came with the server’s apology.

Right after this, the server brought this Sashimi salad below. We appreciated but at the same time, we knew we didn’t have time to finish eating.

As you can see, I forgot to take a picture of whole food, because I got distracted by the salad that the server brought and the conversation with him for that.

Well, anyways, we enjoyed our food, and we asked the server for the salad to go.

They renewed their website so that we can see the lunch menu on site.
