On New Year’s night, Collin and I headed to Whistler to ski next day. We decided this stay at last minute, so when we went to some of the restaurants in Whistler Village, there were a lot of people waiting at the door, and the waiting time was more than one hour.

I suggested checking up 21 Steps Kitchen & Bar, because when I went there with my friend on a long weekend before, we were able to squeeze into the lounge upstairs, without waiting for long for the restaurant downstairs. As I thought, we were guided to the lounge called “The Attic” and waited for 15 min to be seated. 🙂

21 Steps is a tapas restaurant, located between Whistler Village Square and bridge to the Village North. From Whistler Village Square, the path turns left to the bridge. Just before the turn, you will see the stairs and menu board on your right.

We ordered from their dinner menu. There are small plate and big plate sections.

Hendrick’s Margarita Double
(Hendrick’s Gin, Triple Sec with fresh Lime & Cucumber)

He seemed to like this very much so that he ended up ordering another one.

Long Island Ice Tea Double
(Vodka, Tequila, Gin, Rum, Triple Sec with fresh lemon and Coke)

When I saw this, I had to order. This recalled one of my good memory that I spent time with co-workers in Whistler. Sentimental? Haha.

My friends and I were at a Taiwanese restaurant for our last dinner together until one year later. We were checking out their dessert menu, but we left the restaurant without having any dessert, as some of us already had milk tea and also we couldn’t find what we wanted to order.

On the way home, one friend said to go somewhere for dessert. We don’t have much information around the area, so we decided to go to Cactus Club Cafe near Metrotown. The restaurant is on Kingsway and open till late.

We each ordered some dessert or drink.

The Perfect Double Cuervo Margarita
(Fresh hand-squeezed Lime Juice, Cuervo tequila and triple sec, shaken with Egg Whites)

Apple Galette
(Flaky puff pastry, Caramelized Apples, Tahitian Vanilla Ice Cream, Caramel Sauce)

Chocolate Lava Cake
(Molten dark Chocolate Cake, Raspberry Coulis, Tahitian Vanilla Ice Cream)

I knew the galette would be big, so I chose the lava cake. I liked it, although I found it sweet. The sourness of raspberry coulis was helpful for that.

Collin and I wanted to go to this restaurant for long time, and Top Chef competition reminded us! (The final four completed at the restaurant.) Since they don’t take reservations, we just had to go there.

Bao Bei Chinese Brasserie is located in Chinatown, about 15+ min walking distance from Stadium Skytrain station. It is a bit unease area. A homeless person was kneeling and begging money in front of the restaurant. But food was good, so wait inside the door. We waited for 20 min before being seated at counter.

We ordered from their regular menu.

Cocktail, Jinzi
(Gin, Aperol, Fernet Branca, rose/ginger water, Fresh lemon, Lemon Oil)

Cocktail, Chino Margarita
(Dried tangerine peel infused reposado tequila, Grated ginger, Fresh lime, Egg white, Chili salt/sugar rim)

The bartender said this was the most popular one. 🙂

The octopus was so tender!

Collin liked this. I preferred ones in Gyoza King.

Cocktail, Banana Colada

We said we would share it, and the bartender made it split for us. It was nice of him.
