As usual, Collin said he wanted to eat Tonkatsu! Is it his routine in certain period? Or maybe, the addiction comes back every a few months. čśÇ Anyways, on the Labour Day long weekend, we went to Kingyo Izakaya on Denman Street.

Kingyo Izakaya serves Japanese tapas dishes at night as well as lunch combo, including Teishoku. It is located in the midway of Robson and Davie Street.

We ordered from their regular lunch menu.

Tea came right away, but our food didn’t come for next 40 min or so. When the next table, who ordered after us, got their food, and we realized one of their foods was what he ordered, Collin got frustrated, because he needed to leave as quickly as possible for work. And, finally the food came with the server’s apology.

Right after this, the server brought this Sashimi salad below. We appreciated but at the same time, we knew we didn’t have time to finish eating.

As you can see, I forgot to take a picture of whole food, because I got distracted by the salad that the server brought and the conversation with him for that.

Well, anyways, we enjoyed our food, and we asked the server for the salad to go.

They renewed their website so that we can see the lunch menu on site.

My company had a meeting with 3rd party in downtown in Vancouver on a weekday, and I headed there, too. The meeting took 3 hours, and then a thing happened, my co-worker lost his phone. He was chasing the GPS signal on the other’s phone to locate his phone, but no luck. Anyways, we waited for another hour, so it was already past 2 o’clock!

My boss and I were thinking where to go for lunch. It is so difficult to find a place when one can’t take gluten and another one is allergic to shrimp. And, the time may be late for lunch. Well, we decided to go to Kingyo Izakaya, since they open til late. Kingyo Izakaya is on Denman street between Robson and Davie streets.

We ordered from their regular lunch menu. There was one more different dish, but I missed the chance to take a picture.

My choice, Chef’s Choice Grilled Daily 2 Kinds Fish Combo
(Today’s fish: Horse Mackerel and Salmon)

I was thinking to order a different one, but I ordered this again. This time, 2 kinds fish were horse mackerel (Aji) and salmon. The small plate on the left was tofu with garlic oil, but it wasn’t spicy or anything, and it was just oily, and I and some others didn’t like it. Anyways, I was too full afterwards.

When the Chinese New Year’s parade was held at Chinatown, I decided to go for a long walk. I walked from Chinatown to Gastown, on Robson street to Denman street. Before continuing towards the seawall around Stanley Park, I stopped by this restaurant for late lunch. It was almost 3 o’clock, and they were open till 3!

Kingyo Izakaya is on Denman street between Robson and Davie streets. They open lunch daily.

I ordered from their regular lunch menu.

The combo came with rice, Miso soup, pickled veggies, and a small dish, which this time was simmered vegetables, including Kabocha. Horse mackerel (Aji) was half body, and atka mackerel (Hokke) was portioned. It is rare to find atka mackerel at stores, so I was happy. Compared to mackerel (Saba) or horse mackerel, atka mackerel is more milky or fatty.

Oh that was good! I’m glad to have had this. So satisfied, physically and mentally. čÖé
