When I attended my friend’s baby shower, I made some new friends. As I go hiking quite a lot, some of them asked me to take them for easy ones. Since then, I planned a couple of times and we had fun. In September, one of them contacted me and asked me if I can go hiking to a trail that I hadn’t been and also to go to this restaurant where I told her I had wanted to go, when I looked at her picture on Facebook.

The place was Cora. When I saw their food on the blog of a friend of a friend, that reminded me of food at Eggsquis in Quebec, and I really wanted to eat. The restaurant is in Coquitlam and Richmond, and they serve huge breakfast meal.

Here are what we ordered.

1990’s Harvest

This is super huge! Of course, she didn’t finish them. She asked real maple syrup, and these ones came. You get charged for this.

I believe this was vegetarian choice. She said there were lots of potatoes that made her stomach full.

My choice, Cora’s Special
(2 Eggs, Bacon, Ham, Sausage and Crepe)

The crepe was so small. That was a sad thing, but the dish had a pretty volume. I would like to try waffle next time, maybe? Not before hiking, though. 😉

My friend decided to move out of her place at the end of April, so our other friends and I was planning to help her move her stuff on a weekend. Before helping, I met her earlier to have quick lunch. As I had to work in the morning a bit and we didn’t have much time, she selected two places nearby.

We chose one in Marpole area, Cafe de l’Orangerie. They are a Japanese style Italian or French restaurant. food.

We ordered from their regular menu.

My choice, Shrimp Macaroni Gratin
(Served with Homemade Mashed Potato & Homemade Bun)

My friend’s choice, Japanese Style Neapolitan Spaghetti
(Ham, Mushroom, Onion, Red Pepper, Special Tomato Ketchup Sauce)

My macaroni gratin was OK. It tasted good, but the white sauce was a bit watery than I thought. Thinking about cooking myself, I appreciate they have it on the menu, though.

My friend didn’t like her spaghetti much. I think the tomato sauce wasn’t seasoned well.

Dine Out Vancouver means time for girls’ night. Since when? Last year. 🙂 One of my friends asked me about this restaurant before, so why not going there?

Fishworks is in walking distance from Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver. They served 3-course meal for $28, appetizer, main, and dessert.

I ordered a glass of white wine.

My friends’ appetizer, Fresh Fanny Bay Oyster, orange aspic, chives, orange blossom mignonette

Usually, Fanny Bay oysters are big fat that I don’t like. This was small ones, and my friends enjoyed them, saying they can eat another plate.

My appetizer, Marinated eggplant – soy, ginger, toasted pine nut

My friends’ main, Oxtail confit, roasted potato gnocchi, sweet peas, sardo

We all pictured in our mind that this dish would be like 5cm-height oxtail with bone served with gnocchi on the side! 😀 I was relieved that I didn’t order it, because I don’t really like gnocchi. And, one of my friends regretted that she should have stuck to her original choice. Sorry, my friend! Choose scallops next time. 🙂

My main, Steelhead, potato-leek gratin, orange emulsion, smoked garlic

My friends’ dessert, Chocolate Mousse (alternative of white chocolate cheese cake)

It was too sweet for them. I told them to order Tiramisu next time.

My dessert, Pistachio Ice Cream, biscotti

Umm, I’ll tell you what. I like their regular menu better. So, I will come again with my these friends.
