So, I mentioned a couple of times in the previous posts that my friend’s birthday was coming up. I picked some restaurants for the dinner, and the birthday girl chose one, which was Siena. When I called them and asked if we can bring some cake with us, a lady, who answered the phone, said not allowed due to the health/sanitary concern. I understood their point of view. While I was discussing with my friends what we wanted to do, either change the restaurant, or no cake to bring but order at the restaurant or go somewhere else for dessert, I got a returning call from the lady, saying we can bring cake but they will charge $2.50 per person. Anyways, I made a reservation online at the end. 😀

Siena Restaurant is at lively South Granville, a couple blocks away from Broadway. They are a casual Italian restaurant where can serve maybe 40 people.

We were a group of five, and two boys decided to go for Prix Fixe, three course meal, and the rest of us, girls went for antipasti to share and ordered each entree.

Antipasti (for two)
(Asparagus Salad, Smoked Salmon, Olives, Salmon Mousse, Sopresetta, Orzo Salad, Roasted Garlic, Focaccia, Lentil-Pepper Salad)

This antipasti was enough to share with three people. We even offered to the others, who ordered Prix Fixe, to have some. I, personally, liked asparagus salad and salmon mousse. As we shared with everybody, we asked extra focaccia.

Linguine con Vongole
(Clams steamed in White Wine, Garlic and Olive Oil)

The birthday girl was so happy to have this. Actually, the reason why she decided to go to this restaurant was the picture of vongole on their website! 🙂 And, you know what? It tasted great!

Spaghettini alla Puttanesca
(Tomato, Chili, Garlic, Anchovies, Olives, Capers)

The other girl friend went for this, and she said it was salty. I tasted, and I thought the saltiness came from olives.

Seared Scallops on Pesto Risotto
(Qualicum Bay Scallops, Oven-dried Tomatoes)

This was what I ordered. The first bite of the risotto made me think. The second bite made me ask my friends to try. For the third bite, I asked salt, because it was so bland. Although the server brought salt, the owner or manager came and offered to make a new one. The scallop was perfect, though. Yes, the risotto was fine at the second time.

Entree from Prix Fixe, Grilled Flat Iron Steak
(Salsa Verde, Roasted Fingerlings, Arugula, Parmesan)

Collin ordered this one. He said it would have been better if arugula didn’t hide steak.

Entree from Prix Fixe, Braised Lamb Ravioli
(Citrus Gremolata, Brown Butter, Pecorino)

The other boy friend ordered and loved this one. Yet, he wished there were more ravioli in the plate. 🙂

Dessert from Prix Fixe, Vanilla Gelato with Balsamic Fig Syrup
(Almond Thyme Biscotti)

Dessert from Prix Fixe, Chocolate Hazel Torte

And, the birthday girl received a glass of complimentary sherry (?) from the restaurant.

I won’t reveal where those are from now. (Well, you must have known!) Look forward the next post.

Anyways, even though we were five of us, they didn’t charge the fee $2.50 per person for five, maybe because two of us ordered their dessert with Prix Fixe.

Right after all menus for Dine Out Vancouver was revealed on the site, I told my friends to take a look at it. I picked a few where I wanted to go and discussed with them where to go. The conversation went on and on, because the site was not easy to narrow your search, unless you know where you want to go and see the menu. This restaurant wasn’t originally picked, but because one of my friends said she really liked it when she went twice in the past and also they offered the same Dine Out menu for lunch with $18, we decided to go.

Seasons in the Park is located in Queen Elizabeth Park, which is in the centre of Vancouver resident area. Although Vancouver has a lot of raining in winter, it was clear a bit on that day so that we were able to see some view of Vancouver downtown and North Shore mountains from the restaurant.

We all ordered from their Dine Out menu.

Complimentary Bread

Beef Carpaccio
(Micro Basil, Pickled Beets, Truffle Aioli, Ricotta Cheese)

We all ordered the same appy. I took time to choose though, as the entree was also beef. Unfortunately, this carpaccio was a bit bland to us. I probably would have appreciated if there was more dressing or salt and pepper.

Grilled Steelhead Salmon
(Herb Salad, Braised Lentils, Double Smoked Bacon, Truffle Oil)

Braised Beef Short Ribs
(Gremolata, Roasted Onions, Potato Puree)

Vanilla Gelato
(Amaretto Anglaise, Chilled Espresso, Biscotti)

Hazelnut Chocolate Torte
(Banana Puree, Whipped Sour Cream)

Both desserts were quite sweet. I asked the server to pack half of them.

And, extra picture of view from the restaurant.

Overall, it was good food with $18. Even my friend, who liked this restaurant, wasn’t so satisfied this time. Within the same group of the company, I liked Dine Out food at The Sandbar last year more than this.

After having brunch, we walked along the seaside towards Stanley Park, as Collin and I planned to go to Vancouver Aquarium. While we were walking, he said he needed to drink coffee.

There are a couple of cafes along the seaside, and he just walked in this cafe without notifying me. Cafe Dolce Gelato is close to Coal Harbour Quay. In summer time, it would be nice to have Gelato and take a rest.

I can’t remember what kind food you could order as breakfast or lunch. I should make a note in the next time.
