For Collin’s birthday, we had a dinner with our close friends. Before the day, one of friends asked me where she can get birthday cake this time. I hadn’t been following news for new cafe or restaurant for a while, so I searched if there is anything new and if not, where the place I hadn’t tried.

And, Thomas Haas Chocolates & Patisserie came up. I have heard about this place many many times, but I just didn’t have a chance to try, because their locations are not close to where I usually go.

She chose 5 pieces of individual cake at the Kitsilano location.

Almond Mascarpone
(Light Mascarpone Cream, Soft Almond Sponge Cake with Amaretto and Espresso)

It sounded like Tiramisu, but it wasn’t. It was more like a sponge cake with coffee taste, as it’s described.

Pistachio Apricot Cake
(Pistachio and White Chocolate Mousse, Fresh Apricot, Vanilla Shortbread)

By looking at the color, I thought match taste. No, no, it was pistachio.

Caramel Brownie Cake
(Flourless Chocolate Pecan Brownie, Caramel Cremeux, Caramel Bavarian)

The was gluten free. I don’t mind flourless at all.

Hazelnut Praline
(Hazelnut Mousseline, Hazelnut Dacquoise, Vanilla Sponge Cale, Jamaican Run Syrup, Shortbread Crust)

We shared each one of them, so I can’t remember much how the taste was. Haha. I didn’t have any disliking feeling, so they must be all good. Next time, I would like to enjoy one by myself.

Our friends got together for Collin’s birthday dinner, and they bought some cake for him. Before they went, they asked me where they should go or are in my list. So, I gave them three choices and had them choose at their convenience.

They picked Plaisir Sucre Bakery in Kitsilano, closed to Broadway and Arbutus street. I have never been there, so I don’t know what exactly their store looks like, but I believe there are some seats to eat in. They seem to have not only cake but also pastries. While I was researching, one site said there was another cafe across the street so not to be confused.

They picked five kinds of cake and tart.

All of them are delicious! I would like to have some sandwiches and have some cake for dessert. 🙂
