It was a cold day as September and even raining a bit. I walked around downtown Vancouver for hours, and I wanted to sit and warm up. In the Sunday afternoon, way past lunch time, I didn’t know where to go, except cafe. Then, suddenly the idea came up.

It was Tableau Bar Bistro. I was lucky they opened until 3 for brunch, and I just made it. They are in a walking distance from Burrard Skytrain station.

I ordered an appetizer to warm up.

They even brought some bread with it. Their service is great for last two visits. The onion soup tasted good.

The restaurant seems casual, but some people looked to enjoy a bottle of wine, wearing nice clothes. So, you can go there in any occasion.

My friend was moving out her place by the end of April, so our other friends and I helped her move her stuff from the old place to the new place. After everything was done, we were planing to have dinner together. As her new place is in Burnaby, we all were not sure where to go. One of us had an idea, and he called them to make sure the direction.

We went to Red Robin. It is located in Burnaby, but it is close to Coquitlam. I have been to the one in Vancouver downtown, which is sadly gone. They serve American/Canadian food. Are burgers main? Maybe. There were lots of family and birthday group.

We ordered from their regular menu.

Bottomless Beverage Lemonade

I asked the server before order if the lemonade is too sweet, and she said not too sweet. She was right. I enjoyed the sourness.

French Onion Soup (bowl)
(A freshly prepared favorite made from rich beef stock with caramelized sweet onions, topped with melted Provolone & Parmesan cheeses, served with garlic cheese bread)

My friends seem to love their French onion soup. In fact, I tasted and I liked, too.

Towering Onion Rings
(13 rings tall, sweet Spanish yellows seasoned, breaded & fresh fried, served with campfire mayo and ranch dressing for dipping)

Tower is a fun thing! I love onion rings, so I enjoyed some bite.

Bottomless Steak Fries

Red Robin Gourmet Cheeseburger
(Garnished with crisp lettuce, fresh tomatoes, pickles, red onions, mayo & Red’s pickle relish. You choose your favorite cheese:  Cheddar, Canadian Processed, Swiss, Bleu, Provolone or Pepper-Jack.)

Arctic Cod Fish & Chips (Yams instead)
(Premium, icy cold water Cod filets, hand-battered in a light tempura batter and crisply-fried, served with our Bottomless Steak Fries and our original dill & pickle tartar sauce)

I love yam fries, too. My friend switched to yam fries at last minute! 🙂 So I was able to taste some. So good! And, bottomless? Dangerous!

Chinese Dry Ribs
(1 lb of ribs tossed in coarse salt, pepper & toasted sesame seeds, served with garlic chili sauce for dipping)

The ribs were good, too. Maybe, a bit salty? It was fine with me, as I just had some bite.

My choice, Avo-Cobb-O Salad
(Crisp mixed greens with tender grilled chicken breast, black forest ham, hard-boiled egg, avocado, black olives, ripe tomatoes and crumbled Bleu cheese, served with warm garlic cheese bread & your choice of dressing)

It is rare to find Cobb salad with blue cheese, so I was happy to have it. The salad was huge, and I couldn’t even finish after sharing with my friends.

I was so surprised some of their food was bottomless! Good for wallet, but bad for body?! 😀

On one Friday night, I sent a text message to my friend if she wanted to go for walk next day. She responded yes! So, I also asked if there was any place she wanted to go for brunch. You know, it happens when you think about something, the thing won’t come up to your mind, which if you don’t think, it will be in your mind. Our wish-listed places it is! Anyways, I gave her three ideas, combination of hiking places and restaurants. She picked Kits one.

We had brunch at Cafe Regalade, before hiking. It is located in Kitsilano, close to Macdonald and 4th Avenue. They serve casual French cuisine for breakfast, brunch, and dinner. The place is like a small bistro cafe. When we arrived, there was a line up. We probably waited for at least 30 min.

We ordered from their brunch menu.

I tasted some, and it was good. She said it tasted sour a bit. Maybe the flavour came from cheese?

I also had some bites. It was fluffy inside. She said it was probably made in oven, rather in frying pan. The interesting thing was when it got cold, the texture was more like pound cake.

My choice, Lyon Breakfast
(2 Poached Eggs, Mushrooms, Bacon, Pearl Onions, Spinach, Potatoes, and Red Wine Sauce, Salad)

When I started eating, I realized that this was a quite huge meal as brunch. I left some potatoes in the plate at the end. The sauce was a little bit salty, but with egg and spinach, as well as bread, it was fine.

I had heard about one of their dessert from my other friend that is an interesting shape, which is called Floating Island. However, our server said they didn’t have sauce for it, although the dessert was in the showcase. 😦 He showed us other dessert and convinced me to order the other one.

Cream Puff

I didn’t expect two coming! I asked the server why, and he said the dish comes with two. Wow! So, you had better come with your friend. My friend said she was full, so I ended up taking some home with me. Well, next time, Floating Island, for sure! 🙂
