It was another very cold day in the middle of January, yet it looked beautiful outside with blue sky. I went out to get some lunch and get some fresh air.

There are a few choices, and I chose Shiosai Sushi Bar. It is close to Joyce Skytrain station. They have only window counter seats in the restaurant, so I think they expect most people to go.

I ordered from their daily menu to go.

Chirashi literarily means scattering or spreading. I have their version of Chirashi for the first time. There were Saba, Toro, Salmon, Daikon pickles, deep-fried Tofu, cucumber, egg omelet, octopus, surf clam, and Tobiko, on top of the rice.

It was good. Nothing special, though.

In early October, I had to run some errands and went out after work. While I was doing so, I thought about what I do with dinner and decided to take out from somewhere that I can order and continue to do the errands until the order is up.

I went to Hyoga Japanese Cuisine. It is a Japanese restaurant on Kingsway, close to Joyce Street. They serve Sushi and Japanese tapas like Izakaya dishes.

When I walked in and looked at the menu, and asked if Hamachi (yellowtail) was fresh or not. I mean, I wanted to know if the fish just arrived or not. The server asked the owner chef, and he said there was young yellowtail just arrived, called Yazu.

I ordered from their set menu with Yazu.

The chef described that the fish was young so that the meat was less fatty. It was elastic, compared to the regular yellowtail, to me. I enjoyed this Yazu Sashimi. If you ask which one I prefer, Yazu or regular, I would say regular, because I like fatty. 🙂

Thanks to the chef that offered the Hamachi set replacing by Yazu with the same price.

Collin came from the work and he wanted to eat anything but we can eat right away. It means he wanted to go out! 😀 As he hadn’t been to this restaurant, we decided to go. I had to take care of something for work on that day, so we left home a bit late and it was right on dinner time when we arrived. All tables were taken, and the server said it would be 15-20 min or so for a table available. We walked around and went back, and the restaurant was quieter.

I wanted to eat this, and he told me to go for it. I liked this Donburi. The combination of Tuna belly and the vinaigrette was good.

These were his choice. At the end, there didn’t seem enough for him, so I told him to order one more roll.

Prawn Tempura

He is a prawn monster! He loves prawns.

Nasu Dengaku

Nasu Dengaku is Miso grazed eggplants. Some people may find it too sweet, and some people may find it too rich, but I like them.

He seemed to enjoy their food, so we will come back again.
