On the second day of the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend, my new friends whom I met at the baby shower, and I planned to go to the Grouse Grind. It was the first time for them to try. 🙂 After we got over it, we headed to Burnaby, where one of the friends live, for having late lunch.

Luckily, as the middle of long weekend, this restaurant was open, Wah Lun Chinese Restaurant. It is on Hastings Street, close to Willingdon Avenue. They have dim sum menu, too. I think you can order them until 3pm.

A husband of my friend ordered for us, for four.

Seafood Chow Mein

This wasn’t in the list that we ticked with a pen, but he ordered it outside the paper. He asked the noodles as hard (fried) one. This reminds me of Kata Yakisoba that I eat in Japan. It tasted good.

This was new to me, and I liked it. I could eat more!

This is chicken cartilage. Yup, I liked them, too. There were a lot to finish. 🙂

Cod Jaw with Ginger & Green Onions

This was also new to me. Basically, you just suck the piece and take fish meat out of the jaw bone. It was marinated with sweet sauce.

Dumpling is always good, right?

I liked all of his choices. We couldn’t finish them all, so we took the leftover home. And, for these volume, look at the total price, so cheap! I’m looking forward another opportunity!

Oh, I was out almost whole day that day; hiking, lunch, shopping, and coffee time. And at the end of the day, my friend and I decided to have dinner. The cafe where we were at was on Fir street at 2nd avenue, so we had two choices, either going up to Broadway or going down to Granville Island. As I didn’t think we can find a restaurant we wanted to go in Granville Island, we headed to Broadway so that we could even take a bus to go somewhere.

When we were walking up the street, we felt we were pretty tired by then and were getting hungry, and we walked in Suika Snack Bar though we didn’t expect to be seated, as they seemed so popular. There were some counter seats available, limited by two hours, and we took it. If you go there, you might as well make a reservation.

They are a Japanese Izakaya-style restaurant, serving a lot of kinds of Sake. They are the same restaurant group as Kingyo in downtown. The kitchen was an open kitchen, and there were patio.

We ordered from their dinner menu and special.

Sencha Tea

It is not complimentary. There are a few kinds of tea, I believe.

Deluxe Appy Suika Box
(9 kinds of appy assorted box, limited 10 daily)

The ingredients must change time to time. On that day, the box came with chicken salad, mackerel salad, grilled duck, marinated eggplant, Tofu with original chili sauce, cooked whelk, toast with cream cheese, octopus with Kimchi, lotus Kinpira. All dishes except Tofu and toast were so good that we wanted to have more. The Tofu was fine, but just chili sauce wasn’t spicy at all, which I didn’t expect. The toast was fine, too. I just thought it didn’t fit to the other dishes.

Although it was quite greasy, the taste was good. It is better to share with more than two. Otherwise, you might get heartburn. 😉

Nankotsu A-ge
(Deep Fried Chicken Cartilage tossed with Secret Curry Spice Mix)

Nankotsu Age at Suika Snack Bar in Vancouver

We loved it! I can’t really describe this… Have you tried the bone in canned salmon? The deep fried cartilage is like that, but much hard. When you bite, you can feel the crunchiness.

And, an extra picture of the interior.
