At the beginning of this month, I happened to look at their site and found that there was a spacial dinner for 3rd Annual Oceanwise Celebration at Trafalgars Bistro in Kitsilano. I like seafood and thought 7-course dinner for $65 was good deal, so I emailed to one of my friends if she was interested.

I called them next day for a reservation, and I felt comfortable by talking with them, as I was on guard because I thought the restaurant was not casual. When I asked their dress code and if jeans were OK, she said, make sure the jeans were able to be stretched due to 7-course. 🙂

My friend ordered taster size (2 oz) of wine, and I ordered a glass of wine.

I enjoyed most of them.

Sockeye salmon was little sweet for me. Paella was like soup, which I’m not sure if it was supposed to be. Lobster in the pound cake was big pieces and it was interesting-weird taste. :O

I liked Uni form, though I’m not really a fan of Urchin. I don’t think I ever eat sturgeon before, but it tasted like between sable fish and cod. I just looked up what kind of fish it was, and it was surprising to me!

An extra picture of the restaurant.

My hiking friend and I were planning to have a stress-release day. (Actually, we just had a plan to meet up for lunch. :p) She has an antenna for food, so I followed her lead.

Kishimoto Japanese Kitchen + Sushi Bar is on Commercial Drive, in a walking distance from Commercial-Broadway station. I had looked at pictures of their food in a few blogs, and the restaurant was in my wish list. Our other hiking friend also joined, and we talked a lot and took pictures of food a lot, too.

We ordered from their regular and special menu.

My friend’s choice, Ahi Tuna Zuke on Rice from the special
(Marinated red Tuna on warm white rice with sesame seeds and Nori seaweed)

I tasted, and Tuna was marinated really well.

Other friend’s choice, Spicy Cactus Roll
(Spicy crab meat, avocado, Tempura bits, mayo, sesame, and Tobiko on top)

What I noticed when looking at their menu on Facebook, is that they state clearly whether they use (real) crab meat or imitation crab. That is cool.

My choice, Chirashi Donburi (mixed Sashimi cuts)

This was interesting. The rice was well-mixed with many different ingredients, such as minced pickled radish, minced Shiitake mushroom, sesame, minced Shiso leaf, etc. There was a butterfly made of carrot on Wasabi. 🙂

My friends actually took a video to see the whole presentation of this Chirashi Donburi.

And, one Sushi roll to share, Sundried Tomato Roll
(Avocado, sundried tomato, artichoke, hummus sauce)

The interesting combination of rice, artichokes, and hummus.

The pinwheel is made of Daikon radish and Edamame! So, you can eat. The blue liquid in the glass is energy drink, according to our server.

They have Okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) and pressed Sushi, so I want to go again.
