For the first weekend brunch this year, we tried a famous brunch place. As we expected, there were a few people waiting. As Collin had to go to work soon later, we looked for another place. While we were walking towards Robson and Burrard, I asked him if this restaurant was OK.

Earls is a chain restaurant in Canada and some places in USA. As far as I know, they used to serve all western food, but it has been changed time to time, and now you can even see Sushi in the menu. The restaurant is in multiple locations, and the place where we went is located at the corner of Hornby and Smithe Street.

We ordered from their brunch menu.

Croque Madame
(Virginia Ham, White Cheddar, Roasted Serrano Cream, House Sourdough)

He asked the server the sauce on side for me, because he said it would be spicy, based on the description of the sauce. It was nice of him.

Whoa, I just saw what I didn’t want to see. I looked at their nutritional info on their site, and this croque madame is over 1,300 calories! Yet, it was sooo good! I liked the bread, crispy crust and soft inside.

The sandwich board outside showed French toast, which looks good. I would try that next time.

I wasn’t feeling well on and off for quite a while in November, and I was tired of eating light meal. Suddenly, I had a craving for curry, so I decided to get some. Well, I could have made at home, but I was just being lazy. 🙂

I went to ZAC-ZAC Japanese Curry House. They are located in the food court at H-Mart in downtown Vancouver. They are specializing in Japanese curry, but they also have Donburi and Bento box menu.

I ordered from their curry menu to go for me and Collin.

Haha, both looked same! Compared to last time, their to-go container has been changed. For the taste? No change, that’s good. The cutlet was crispy even after I took home.

Like last time when I ordered, they asked the spiciness level, mild or regular, and I didn’t remember which level I had chosen before. Mild seems like little sweeter.

It was a weekday evening, and I had a Vancoupon booklet, so I got 5% off. You can get it at locations in the list here.

Still talking about food in September, Collin and I decided to go for brunch on the last weekend of September. I was searching for a place the night before the weekend. I didn’t feel like eating sandwiches, and there wasn’t a place where I eager to go.

So, for my curiosity, because everyone seems to like this restaurant, I chose Hawksworth Restaurant. They are located in Rosewood Hotel Georgia across from the Vancouver Art Gallery. There is a cafe beside them, which I have been a few times. Both the restaurant and the cafe are owned by a same person.

We didn’t make a reservation, but we managed to get a seat right away. The restaurant was packed, so it is probably recommended for a reservation.

His choice, Smoked Chicken Hash

My choice, Pacific Sablefish Brandade
(Poached Eggs, Tomato, Chorizo, Watercress, Grilled Bread)

I was surprised by the price of the coffee. It was expensive to me for one person. (It might be charged per table?) Well, I liked my choice of food, though.
