In the early September, a craving for this pastry came to me! On his day off, I asked Collin if he wanted to pick up some for us. 🙂 Although he struggled to wake up early, he went there.

The pastry was Frissant at Swiss Bakery in Vancouver. It is croissant-doughnuts and is called as cronuts in New York. The store is a few blocks away from Main Skytrain station.

When he came back, he said there weren’t vanilla flavour any more. That’s sad.

This cookies ‘n cream flavour was good, too, as there was my favorite vanilla custard cream in it! So, are they changing the flavour time to time?

One day in July, I suddenly had a craving for the famous croissant-doughnuts, which were introduced since May via various news magazine, sites, and blogs. Although the store opens at 7 am, when I checked their Facebook page and tweets, the products seem to be ready around 9 am, but those would be sold out way before noon. So I prepared for getting up earlier for the next morning before work.

This croissant-doughnuts are called Frissants and made and sold at Swiss Bakery in Vancouver. As all probably already know, the original cronuts got popular in New York, and Swiss Bakery did trial and error and created Frissant with their own recipe. The store is on 3rd avenue, a half block off the Main street.

I liked both croissant and Frissant! What I liked about the Frissant was the taste of vanilla custard cream. Not butter creamy, but milky. Of course, I liked the texture of dough, which was crispy.

And, an extra picture of the store exterior.

As I mentioned, I was on Main street with my friend to find a place to have some bites. While we were walking, there was a place where I thought was a restaurant when I looked at it across the street. We crossed the road and looked inside, it was a cafe. And, with a closer look, I realized that this was the one I was looking at its website at the night before, via someone’s blog! How exciting!

The place was 49th Parallel Cafe, and Lucky’s Doughnuts was inside the cafe. Although we were looking for a restaurant, my friend suggested going in, so we did. It was even late for dinner time, so there weren’t much choices. When I chose 5 doughnuts, the cashier told me that if I bought one more, I would get a discount. Well, I went for it!

My favorite were Glazed and Tiramisu. I thought Collin would like the salted caramel because he loves caramel, but he didn’t like much. We both thought we were not fan of the fruit punch one.

Next time, I would love to have one with coffee, sitting at table and enjoying time.

By the way, did you know the difference between the words, doughnuts and donuts? When I was going to tag, I was confused so I searched for it. And, I merged two tags to one. 🙂
