One night in June, Collin said he wanted to eat Sushi for dinner, but he was so hungry that he couldn’t wait in line. I was thinking where we can go and remembered that my friend had told me that there was a new Japanese restaurant open on Kingsway, close to Nanaimo street and it wasn’t bad. Although we had to take a bus to get there, we decided to go.

Sushi By Yuji is probably in 15 min walk from Nanaimo Skytrain station. They serve mainly Sushi, but there are some appetizer like Gyoza, and some dessert, on the menu, too.

We ordered from their regular menu and special on the board.

This was new to me. Negitoro with roe quail egg. Negitoro is chopped fatty tuna and green onion. I saw this on someone’s blog and had to order! This was good! It looked small, but it got mouthful. 🙂

And, an extra picture of the restaurant exterior.

Overall, Sushi was good. If the restaurant was packed, there would be some slowness, because there is only one chef working. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you. You can choose the size of rice for Nigiri! In Japan, Sushi tends to use quite small amount of rice, which is designed for bite-size.

I like their Facebook page shows what kind of fish just gets delivered, which looks so fresh and clean!

I really really didn’t want to cook, and it was a sunny day and still bright after 6:00pm, so I decided to eat out. Calling the restaurant if there was a seat available, I took a bus to get there.

Shima-Ya Sushi is located in Kensington area, close to 41st and Victoria Drive. They serve mostly Sushi and Sashimi. I ordered Omakase (Chef’s Choice) Nigiri Sushi from their regular menu, as I felt that I deserved to eat good food. 😀 Omakase comes with 10 Nigiri Sushi and Miso Soup.

I couldn’t concentrate well on that day, and I didn’t want to cook at all. I felt like eating Sushi, especially, Nigiri Sushi rather than Sushi bowl or rolls. I looked for a place, and this restaurant came up in my mind. When I called them if I can seat right away, she nicely told me that they were busy right now but it would be better in 30 min and there would be a seat open in the counter if I come by myself.

Shima-Ya Sushi is located in Kensington area, close to 41st and Victoria Drive. From Joyce Skytrain station, it takes 10 min by bus. They serve mostly Sushi and Sashimi. I didn’t see any of meat stuff, such as Karaage.

I ordered from their regular menu and fresh item. Assorted sushi comes with 7 Nigiri Sushi and 1 tuna roll, and deluxe assorted sushi comes with 2 additional Nigiri. I wanted to eat Ikura and Aji (Horse Mackerel), so I chose the regular assorted one.

Aji (Horse Mackerel) was sold out, and the server recommended Sayori (Halfbeak) from their fresh sheet. I don’t know if I have eaten it before, especially as raw.

They have Japanese confections, such as Mitsumame and Anmitsu, which I wanted to try but I was too full. Maybe, next time!
