On the New Year’s Eve, there was no plan for me after work. Collin had to work until late night, so we made a plan to meet up. I picked him up, and we went to Gastown. We walked towards east and looked for a place to have some food and drink.

Luckily, The Flying Pig had some seat available at the bar counter. There were tons of people, wearing hat or dressing up, and it was quite noisy. TV was showing different places for New Year’s celebration.

We ordered some snack from their dinner menu, as he said he was starving.

I couldn’t remember what Beefeater was, so I searched and knew it was Gin. He really likes Gin! Whenever I try, I don’t know the taste.

I already had dinner earlier, so I didn’t even try this. As he likes bone marrow and also cheese, this made him happy. 😀

I tried this skirt steak. It was good. Yet, the steak portion was small, although there were lots of potatoes.

We ordered one more thing, but it didn’t come. When we asked the bill, it was included, so we told them about it and asked to remove. It was understandable, as the restaurant was filled by lots of people for the New Year’s count down, but it would be nice if we could have tried the dish.

Anyways, it was fun to count down with all strangers in the restaurant, while TV was counting down, and to watch people screaming, blowing horn, hugging, etc. when it turned to the New Year.

For my birthday weekend in December, I asked Collin to go for brunch. As usual, we left home later than we thought, we looked for a restaurant somewhere close to Waterfront station, as he had to go to work after. I suggested a couple of places, and he agreed to one of them.

It was Tuc Craft Kitchen in Gastown, close to Woodward’s. I have been there with one of my friends for dinner, but for him, it was the first time.

We ordered from their brunch menu.

My choice, Berries & Gaufres
(Fresh Waffles, Blueberry Compote, Cream Cheese)

Gaufres are waffles in French. They were thin crispy waffles. If I liked it? Not so much, I mean, it was different. I prefer waffles like crispy outside and fluffy inside.

His choice, Crispy Chicken & Waffles

Unlike me, he liked his dish. He seemed to like the combination of savory chicken and waffles. According to him, the chicken was crispy outside and moist inside. Plus, he liked the sauce, too. I couldn’t find what the Mournaise is.

In early December, Collin said he wanted to go a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown, where we went a while ago and liked their food. They don’t take a reservation, so we just headed to the restaurant. When we arrived, there were a lot of people inside standing, and we realized there was a note on the door, saying closed for private function. Sigh. We came all way down here and couldn’t go. We headed back to Stadium station and were thinking about an alternative.

Collin said he wouldn’t mind eating Sushi, so we went to Tsuki Sushi Bar. It is on Abbott street, close to Pender. They serve mainly Sushi, and I don’t think they have any deep-fry stuff.

We ordered from their regular and special menu.

I liked Abbot Roll, which consists of Tuna, BBQ salmon, skin, lettuce, cucumber, mayo and Masago. We didn’t like their Dynamite Roll last time and totally forgot about it. We still didn’t like it. Their Dynamite roll was torched with Tsuki sauce.

We are not a fan of Uni, sea urchin, but since it was on special, I ordered one. It was fresh, so I didn’t mind eating it.

I liked Torotaku last time, so I ordered it. It is a combination of Toro and Takuwan (pickled Daikon radish). Kani Special Roll was good. It contained real Dungeness crab. I’m not sure if I liked Rainbow Roll, although we ordered last time, too. I wouldn’t order it next time.

We were full, but he had already decided to order this dessert since he saw it on their special menu.

Mochi Ice Cream 2pcs

This is ice cream inside covered by Mochi (pounded sticky rice). There were two choices to choose from, vanilla or match. Collin ordered two vanilla, and I ordered one each. Mochi on match was little bit dry.

They open Sundays now. Their price seems up quite a bit, compared to the last time.
