Still about last year. Collin and I usually go to his dad’s house for Christmas dinner on the Christmas Eve, so the Christmas Day is a quiet day. We talked about next day what we were going to, as there would be so many people outside because of the Boxing Day. I looked at the site and found out we could have afternoon tea as a lunch special price, since it was a weekday. Yep, I made a reservation.

The Urban Tea Merchant is located in downtown Vancouver. You can access from either Georgia Street or Alberni Street. It is a tea store, but they serve lunch or dessert, in addition to afternoon tea. The lunch special includes a pot of tea.

I chose this, and Collin chose Weekend in Shanghai tea.

This is Petite Afternoon Tea, so it’s a mini size. It was served per person. Some fruits on top, scone in the middle, and some deli at the bottom.

There were three kinds of sandwiches and one cone. Cucumber & watercress tea sandwich, Indian Night curried egg salad sandwich, Lapsang Souching Tea chicken cone, and glazed ham with peppered piperade. I liked all, but we both really liked this chicken cone.

On the middle tier, a scone was served with creme & tea-infused jelly. The scone was warm and good. I don’t remember if I did smell tea infusion from the jelly.

At the top tier, Red Christmas Tea fruit pate, chevron strawberry, and seasonal fruit. As seasonal fruit, raspberry, blackberry, starfruit, and pineapple. The fruit pate was quite chewy.

Although it was mini, it was a enough potion to fill our stomach in the morning on a lazy day. We definitely want to try another option, including just regular lunch or dessert.

Collin and I had his birthday dinner at a restaurant in downtown Vancouver, and we were too full to have dessert. We walked around to have our stomach settle down and went to this store before heading home.

Urban Fare is a grocery store. They are in a few locations, and we went to the one close to Thurlow Street. You can access either Georgia Street or Alberni Street. Since we didn’t have dessert, we got some from them. You can find bakery and pastries beside the cheese section.

Long time ago, the cake I bought from the store tasted good. Unfortunately, these were not my taste. They were just too sweet. I had a couple bites and gave to him. He seemed fine to eat both! :O

As I mentioned in the previous post, I went to Friday Night Market in North Vancouver on the second week of Friday in October. That day was probably the last day for that event.

I got some food at the other food truck, but of course, it wasn’t enough for dinner. The second food truck I chose was Vij’s Railway Express. The restaurant of his is well-known in Vancouver, but I have never been, so it was a great opportunity to try out their food. They serve Indian and/or Pakistani food.

I asked each of size and ordered two things.

Butter Chicken Schnitzel
(Panko Crusted Free Range Chicken, topped with a rich Tomato and Fenugreek cream Curry, served with cumin-infused Basmati and Nann)

As I worried, the curry was really spicy for me, but it tasted so good! Schnitzel was tender, and when I ate altogether, I felt the curry’s spiciness was getting mild. 🙂

Lamb Kebab
(Lucknow Lamb Kebab, wrapped in Nann with Basmati Onions, Pea Shoots, and Mint-Mango Chutney, served with Side Rice Puff and Chickpea Salad)

I liked this one, too. Sometimes, lamb smells strongly, yet I didn’t mind this kebab’s smell at all. I have to tell you, this chickpea salad was phenomenal! I love this. I even asked Collin if he can make at home.

You can check where they are or when they open for special events at the app.

Currently, Dine Out Vancouver is held. As part of this, so is Street Food City. They also seem to attend to this event. If you haven’t tried their food, you have an opportunity here.
