My friend and I had dinner at Gastown and didn’t feel like having dessert at that place. Thinking about tea or dessert place, there weren’t any places near Gastown, coming up to my mind, except cheesecake place. So, we decided to walk a bit further, and I remembered this place cafe.

It was Giovane Cafe + Winebar, located in the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel. You can find a big yellow “g” sign at the entrance. There are a cafe counter and a deli counter. At the cafe counter, you can order coffee, tea, or pastries, and you can seat and enjoy them.

We ordered from their dessert menu.

Her choice, Sacher Torte

According to Wiki, Sacher Torte is a Viennese specialty. It looked so dense. Raspberry gummy (?) was on top, and the gummy or dense jam was inside the cake, too.

My choice, Classic Tiramisu

I don’t know what “classic” Tiramisu means, but I liked this one. It was so soft and light, so you could eat it in sec! :p

And, I took out this for Collin. This is his favorite. šŸ™‚

As I wrote, Collin and I went to De Dutch for the weekend brunch. After we paid, I looked at the receipt, there was an interesting statement written.

“Enjoy a LEONIDAS fresh Belgian Chocolate absolutely FREE today, on per receipt. Also 15% discount on everything, including flown in fresh French pastries & chocolates.”

I asked Collin right away what Leonidas means. He said it must be a store name. I wondered where the store was, and while we were walking back to Canada Place street along Convention Centre, I saw the name! It was a tiny cafe & store at Coal Harbour for chocolates or stuff.

We went inside and showed the receipt, and I got a piece of chocolate for free. It was, I believe, hazelnut chocolate. This piece was quite big. I forgot to take a picture of the showcase, but there were a lot of kinds of chocolate pieces. Also, there were macarons, too.

Collin ordered this hot chocolate, as he didn’t want to leave the cafe without buying anything. The hot chocolate was quite sweet.

I added this place to my list for gift occasion.

In the early October, the sky was clear up, and it was nice to be out. For the weekend brunch, what Collin was craving for was pancake at De Dutch. It is called Pannekoek and like a crepe. We like their special bacon.

De Dutch Pannekoek HouseĀ is in a few locations in Vancouver, and we went the one at Canada Place in Coal Harbour. When you go to the harbour, find a big raindrop object, and turn left along the inlet. Eventually, you will find the restaurant.

They serve not only pancake, but they also have breakfast menu, egg benedict, french toast, etc.

We ordered from their Pannekoek menu. He made some complicated request for his order, asking to put pancake in a separate plate from savory and also to add fruit topping, which ended up causing mixing up and misunderstanding.

My choice, Pannekoek with Pear + Maple Syrup

His fruit topping was on my plate, which was also what he meant. He meant something like fruit compote, not fresh fruit topping. The server was happy to replace it for him. Anyways, I liked my pear and maple syrup choice.

This time, the service was great. It was a busy time, but the food came out quickly, too.

Pricing seems to be slightly up, compared to the last time.
