In the early October, the sky was clear up, and it was nice to be out. For the weekend brunch, what Collin was craving for was pancake at De Dutch. It is called Pannekoek and like a crepe. We like their special bacon.

De Dutch Pannekoek House is in a few locations in Vancouver, and we went the one at Canada Place in Coal Harbour. When you go to the harbour, find a big raindrop object, and turn left along the inlet. Eventually, you will find the restaurant.

They serve not only pancake, but they also have breakfast menu, egg benedict, french toast, etc.

We ordered from their Pannekoek menu. He made some complicated request for his order, asking to put pancake in a separate plate from savory and also to add fruit topping, which ended up causing mixing up and misunderstanding.

My choice, Pannekoek with Pear + Maple Syrup

His fruit topping was on my plate, which was also what he meant. He meant something like fruit compote, not fresh fruit topping. The server was happy to replace it for him. Anyways, I liked my pear and maple syrup choice.

This time, the service was great. It was a busy time, but the food came out quickly, too.

Pricing seems to be slightly up, compared to the last time.

On a Sunday morning, Collin said he wanted to have sandwiches for brunch. I was searching for Sunday brunch places where serve sandwiches. Although this places is an Italian restaurant, I found they have some bread on their menu, so I asked if this was OK or not. Well, he says fine most of time, and this is not an exception.

La Pentola is a sister restaurant of La Quercia where I believe recently is closed. As this restaurant is at OPUS hotel in Yaletown, I thought it was fine-ish dining, but not so much. People, who ran a marathon, even came in.

We ordered from their lunch and brunch menu.

Souffle from Lunch menu
(Souffle di Parmigiano, Zucchini Crudo)

The souffle was soft and warm, and I liked that. It was probably the first time for me to eat savory souffle. And, I liked that crudo, too. If I can share, I would order again.

His choice, Croissant + Eggs
(Croissant, Scrambled Eggs, Maple Bacon, Butter Lettuce)

My choice, Sardine + Toast
(Sardine, Fried Egg, Swiss Chard, Toast, Salsa Verde)

Collin said there was no special note on croissant dish. For my dish, the toast was a bit oily because of sardine oil. The sardine had a lot of small bones, so if you don’t like that, then don’t order it.

And, an extra picture outside.

There is eggplant terrine on the menu, and I want to try, as I read a blog saying it was so good.

On one Saturday, I was going hiking somewhere, but when I woke up, I noticed that my iPhone beeped a lot silently. When I looked, there were bunch of messages going on for my work related. There was nothing I can do at that moment, so I just waited for a while. By the time everything settled and things that I had to do were done, it was past noon. So, I sent a text message to my friend if she was interested in brunch with me.

Thinking about the time to be ready to leave home and to get to the restaurant during lunch hour, we decided to go to Medina Cafe. It is in the part of Gastown, close to Stadium Skytrain station. I hadn’t been for quite a while since my last visit, so I was happy to go there.

We ordered from their brunch menu.

Americano

My friend’s choice, Tagine
(2 Poached Eggs, Spicy Tomato Stew, Red Pepper, Merguez Sausage, Moroccan Olives, Cilantro. Hummus and Raita. Grilled Foccaccia.)

The sausage has great spicy flavor, and I liked it, although I usually can’t handle those spiciness. Hummus and Rita was yogurty dip, and I personally didn’t like it.

My choice, Fricasse
(2 Fried Eggs, Braised Short Ribs, Roasted Potatoes, Balsamic Onions, Watercress, Applewood Cheddar. Grilled Foccaccia.)

This was flavourful. Short ribs and sauce and egg yolk with foccaccia bread were good combinations to eat together.
